Ready to Grow Gardens is owned and operated by Stephanie Baker in Tomball, Texas. Stephanie earned her Texas Master Gardener Certification from the Texas Cooperative Extensive and Harris County Master Gardener Association in June of 2003.
She was named Outstanding Volunteer for the fall class of 2002 in recognition of her outstanding service of over 220 volunteer hours. Her volunteer work was primarily spent with students at Sheridan Elementary where two days a week she taught two hundred third graders how to grow a variety of vegetables out of 70 individual container gardens.
Since that time, she has worked to design and build 16 other elementary school gardens. She and her staff are currently working with 27 elementary schools and three private early education centers in the greater Houston area where she teaches a unique hands-on nature/ gardening program. In each outdoor classroom, students learn to how grow vegetables from seed, how to care for the crop organically, and how to enjoy the harvest! All lessons prepared and taught by Ms Baker and her staff are in line with the TEKS and each school’s science objectives set by the district. Ms. Baker teaches students preschool through 5th grade and manages each garden’s growth and development. School volunteers are always an important key to success with activities such as watering, weeding, and special projects like “Salad Party Day” where students discover the joy of eating fresh veggies from their own garden!
